National Independence Day Parade

The 4th of July is now known as IndepenDANCE day for us!

Each year, 25 members of our community represent AVA Dance Company in our Nation's capital in the DC's National Independence Day Parade! They perform a routine in the grandstand area plus walk the duration of the parade route while performing sidelines.

Dancers typically have 3-4 rehearsals to learn and clean a Pom style routine for this event. On the morning of the 4th of July, they will gather near the National Mall ahead of the parade's scheduled start time for a final run-through before stepping off. Then, it's showtime! The dancers will walk along the mall, waving to thousands of spectators while performing short sideline routines consisting of approximately two 8-counts of simple choreography. As they reach the grandstand portion of the route, they will showcase a 60-90 second routine for cameras streaming the parade, news outlets, and even more spectators! The route will conclude with additional sideline performances. Please note that this event takes place outside and is a rain or shine event.

We made out debut in Washington DC's National Independence Day Parade in 2024.

Previous National Independence Day Parade Performances

Our 2025 performance was choreographed by Louis Caponi.
Our 2024 performance was choreographed by Leah Mariner.
Due to extreme heat, parade organizers had to cancel 2026's event for everyone's safety. We still wanted to showcase the dancers' hard work though, so we teamed up with RTZ Productions to create a produced video of the routine! This routine was choreographed by Louis Caponi.
